Why width matters on a bass

Pressure is weight divided by area. A 10 lb bass on a 2 inch strap puts about 5 lb of pull on every inch of shoulder it touches; the same bass on a 3 inch strap puts a third less on each inch. That is the whole trick, and it is why bass players reach for the widest strap they can stand to look at.

This strap is a wide one, and it has no padding, so the width is doing all of that work. The maker hasn't given us the figure in inches and we won't invent one; if the exact number matters to you, the 30-day return covers you, with the return postage refunded.

Length

The tail carries a row of slots and the shoulder end feeds through them, the way a belt works, so one strap covers a bass worn at the waist and a bass worn low. The exact range in inches is the second thing we have asked the maker for.

Bass questions

How wide is it?
Wide, and unpadded, so the width is what carries the weight. The maker hasn't given us the figure in inches and we won't invent one; we asked on 14 September 2026. If a number is what you need, the 30-day return with the postage refunded is there for it.
Will it go long enough for playing low?
The tail carries a row of slots and the shoulder end feeds through them, so one strap covers a bass worn at the waist and one worn low. The exact range in inches is the other measurement the maker hasn't confirmed; if you know you play at an extreme, ask us before you order.
Does it take strap locks?
Yes. Each end has a single strap-button hole of the standard size, which is the shape any regular strap lock pin fits. We don't sell them; the strap lock guide covers when they earn their place on a bass.
Is it padded?
No. There's no foam in it. Two layers of cowhide spread the load across the width instead, and nothing flattens out in a year.
Will it hold a heavy bass?
It is a two-layer cowhide strap with solid leather ends and stitching down both edges, about 200 g on its own. A 10 lb five-string is what a wide, unpadded leather strap is for. If yours is heavier than that, the guide on straps for heavy guitars covers what else helps.
