Guitar strap size guide
Strap length is the distance from the tail button, over your shoulder, to the neck button with the guitar where you like it. Measure it once and you never need to guess again.
Measure in two minutes
- Put the guitar on with your current strap, or hold it where you want it to sit.
- Run a soft tape (or a length of string) from the tail button, over your shoulder, to the neck button. Keep it flat against your body, the way the strap will sit.
- Write down the number in inches. That is the strap length you need.
Which length
| Your measurement | Order |
|---|---|
| 43 to 55 in (109 to 140 cm) | Regular |
| 50 to 62 in (127 to 157 cm) | Long |
| Bass, 45 to 57 in | Bass strap, Regular |
| Bass, 52 to 64 in | Bass strap, Long |
If you land between 50 and 55, either works; Regular on its last hole sits the same as Long on its first. Pick Long if you expect to wear the guitar lower over time.
No tape? Use height
This chart assumes the guitar sits at waist height, which is where most players wear an electric standing up. It is a starting point, not a measurement.
| Height | Guitar at waist | Guitar low (belt or below) |
|---|---|---|
| Under 5 ft 6 in | Regular | Regular |
| 5 ft 6 in to 6 ft | Regular | Long |
| Over 6 ft | Long | Long |
Which width
| Guitar | Width | Strap |
|---|---|---|
| Acoustic, Telecaster, Stratocaster, most guitars under 8 lb | 2.5 in | Classic |
| Les Paul, SG, hollow-body, anything over 8 lb, long sets | 3 in | Wide padded |
| Bass | 3.5 in | Bass |
Width does not change the length options; every strap comes in Regular and Long.
