How guitar strap locks work

A new leather strap is stiff for the first couple of weeks, and a stiff tail on a worn button is how guitars end up on the floor. Strap locks replace the button with a socket and put a spring-loaded pin on the strap; the strap cannot come off until you press the release.

Guide: do you need strap locks.

Fitting and questions

Do I need to drill?
No. The new button uses the same screw hole as the one on your guitar now.
Will they fit a vintage guitar?
The button screw is the standard size. If your guitar has an unusually small original screw, keep it and use the new button with a slightly larger screw, or ask a tech to fill and re-drill; that is a five-minute job.
